Prepare some gravel larger than 1/4” (6mm) (Screen out all
gravel smaller than 1/4”). The larger the gravel and thinner
the gravel bed, the faster waste will fall under the Bio-Plate
and be removed. If you do want to use gravel smaller than
1/4”, cover the Bio-Plate with a piece of fiberglass window
screen(you still need to screen out all small pieces).
Gravel bed : 1/4” to 1”
Fresh water : Gravel larger than 1/4” (6mm), like larger pea
size gravel.
Salt water : Substrate larger than 1/4” (6mm), like Taiwan
